Nikki Wylie - Head Distiller
Having worked seasonally with the Orkney Wine Company and then at a specialist whisky retailer on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, joining the Orkney Distillery team was a natural fit for Nikki when she returned home from University.
She originally joined the team in September 2018 as a Tour Guide and Bar Operative. Finding herself increasingly drawn to production, Nikki quickly became a full time fixture on the other side of the distillery wall as Assistant Distiller. She is now responsible for making all of our delicious Kirkjuvagr gins, as well as running the day-to-day workings of our wee production line.
What do you like most about working at the Orkney Distillery?
Without leaving the building, I can follow a bottle of gin from its conception, to the botanicals, to the stills, to the bottling/labelling and right through to the G&Ts in customers hands the end. I can be there at every part of the process and I think there's something very rewarding about that.
What is your favourite drink from the bar?
I've become very partial to a Northwest Passage Expedition gin with Mediterranean tonic, a twist of lemon and seasonally, a sprig of samphire for that added taste of the sea!
