Barrel Aged Navy Strength Gin - 50cl
5 YEARS IN THE MAKING
Navy Strength gin is traditionally bottled at a minimum of 57% ABV. The term originates from the 18th-century British Royal Navy, where spirits were stored aboard ships alongside gunpowder. To verify the strength of the spirit, sailors mixed a small amount of gunpowder with the gin and attempted to ignite it. If the mixture burned, the spirit was considered strong enough - at least 57% ABV - and therefore “proved".
Our Barrel Aged Navy Strength Gin pays tribute to this tradition while adding a distinctive character of its own. Bottled at 59% ABV, a nod to our location at 59 degrees North, this expression combines the bold intensity expected of a Navy Strength gin with the complexity of extended cask maturation.
Unlike most Navy Strength gins, which are typically unaged, this release has been matured for five years in ruby port and bourbon casks before being expertly blended. The result is a rich amber spirit, offering exceptional depth, smoothness, and balance while retaining the robust strength synonymous with the style.
